What DVS does
DVS is a handicap system for Canine Athletics. It compares the result with the dog's height, so a taller dog does not automatically receive an advantage simply because it can produce a longer result.
The leading result-to-height performance in one discipline receives 100.00 DVS. Every other valid performance is shown as a percentage of that leader.
Step 1: make results comparable
The raw result is divided by the dog's recorded height. This creates a performance ratio.

Dog B jumps farther than Dog A, but Dog A has the strongest result compared with its own height.
Step 2: the leader sets the scale
Dog A has the best ratio, so Dog A becomes the reference point and receives exactly 100.00. The other dogs are measured against Dog A.

How a new leader changes current DVS
Current DVS follows the strongest known result in the discipline. This example happens across three different events. Each event can introduce a stronger overall leader.

After Event 3, Dog A is the current leader. Dog B and Dog C move down only in the current comparison because the reference point is now stronger. Their raw results never change.
The historical Event DVS does not get rewritten. The score saved for Event 1, Event 2 or Event 3 remains the score that applied inside that event. Only current DVS on records, statistics and comparisons follows the newest overall leader.
Why this is a handicap system
The system rewards performance relative to body height. A smaller dog can therefore beat a taller dog even when the taller dog records more centimetres or turns.
DVS does not claim that all dogs are physically identical. It creates one consistent comparison inside the discipline using the two values the system knows: the recorded result and the dog's height.
Why every discipline uses the same 100-point scale
Canine Athletics disciplines measure different things. Long Jump may use centimetres, while Trackmill may use turns. Those raw numbers cannot be added or compared directly.
DVS gives every discipline the same scale. The best result-to-height performance in each discipline becomes 100.00, and every other dog in that discipline is measured against that leader. This makes each discipline worth the same in an overview: excellence is measured against the best performance in that discipline, not against an unrelated unit from another discipline.
DVS does not make the disciplines identical. It translates each discipline onto the same 0-100 reference scale while keeping every discipline separate.
Event DVS and current DVS

An old event page can therefore show the score that applied on competition day, while current statistics use today's strongest known reference performance.
Each discipline has its own DVS
Long Jump is compared with Long Jump, High Jump with High Jump and Trackmill with Trackmill. A score from one discipline is never used as the leader for another discipline.
Can more than one dog receive 100 DVS?
One dog is registered as the discipline leader and receives 100.00 DVS. An exact mathematical tie must be resolved by the organization's applicable tie-breaking rule.
What data is required?
The result, discipline and dog height must be recorded. A result without a valid height cannot receive a trustworthy DVS.
